How to Improve Your College Admissions Essay

Tuesday, April 8th, 2008
How to Improve Your College Admissions Essay The college admissions essay can be quite a daunting and intimidating task for many aspiring college students. However, the college admissions essay does not have to be so bad. In all actuality though, it seems many colleges do favor an application essay which knocks them off their feet, but in that case, a book on writing essays may help with that task along with a LOT of practice. On the other hand, many colleges and universities just want to know more about YOU…while seeing how well you write.

Colleges and universities WANT you to succeed. They want you to do well on the college admissions essay so they can accept you and make them look great! In order to help you along with this task, I have put together some tips to help all students along with their university admissions essays.

First thing I wanted to point out is that focusing and staying on a topic that you know about very well is key. This will show, through your writing, that you are very sincere and do not appear to be misleading anyone. Write what you now about.

Put a little bit of humor in your writing. Of course, the college application essay is not a stand up comedy routing, but a little humor helps show a more modest side to your self. Remember to stay on topic while modestly making light humor out of some of the subject matter in your college admissions essay topic.

7 Things To Look for When Searching for the Right Graduate School

Sunday, February 17th, 2008
7 Things To Look for When Searching for the Right Graduate School Tuition Costs - It’s quite necessary to figure in tuition costs to your graduate school plan, particularly if you do not have a full scholarship. The average graduate student spends tens of thousands of dollars each year on tuition. If you can’t get a return on your investment or if you can’t afford to pay your student loans after graduation, you may regret attending a high-priced school.

Selectivity Rating - Some grad schools accept nearly everyone who applies, but others are extremely selective. The more selective a school is, the lower your chances are of getting an acceptance letter. This does not necessarily mean that you should avoid applying to the schools that don’t accept high numbers of applicants; it simply means that you might be better off finding more than one school that fits your academic needs.

Average Undergraduate GPA Ranges - Didn’t do so hot in undergraduate school? You may want to take a close look at the average undergraduate GPA ranges before applying. If your GPA falls too far below the average, it could hurt your chances of acceptance. Some schools may even have minimum GPA requirements, which general scraps your chances of getting in altogether.

Cost of College a Bipartisan Concern

Monday, November 12th, 2007
bankrupt.jpg Congressional Republicans have been making known for years their concern about the rapidly escalating tuitions that colleges are charging. Higher education leaders have held out hope that Democratic lawmakers, now that they control Congress, would be more sympathetic to their arguments that the price increases are justified — or at least that colleges should be left to fix the problem on their own, without federal intervention.

That hope was largely dashed Friday, when the leaders of the House Education and Labor Committee released a long-awaited bill to extend the Higher Education Act. The massive 747-page legislation is a hodgepodge of proposals touching on a remarkably wide array of issues — student loan ethics, financial aid simplification, accreditation, help for students with disabilities, and the like.

But perhaps its most striking features are that it reveals clearly (1) that Congressional Democrats are as frustrated by the price of college as their Republican counterparts, and (2) that Democratic lawmakers are, like their Republican peers and the Bush administration, willing to expand the federal role in higher education, not only in the college cost arena but into such areas as textbook prices and technology policies. How to Find an Accredited College or University

Friday, October 19th, 2007
a-must-for-the-knowledge-revolution.jpg If you have done any research on online schools, the main thing that you have probably learned is that you should only attend an accredited college or university. Although this is also true about traditional colleges and universities, the main reason that it is stressed so much about online schools is because there are so many scams in which online colleges lead you to believe that they are accredited, even though they are not.

Here, we will take a much closer look at some of the things that you should be sure to consider when looking for an accredited college or university to earn your degree from.

Why is Attending an Accredited College or University Important?

Attending an accredited college or university is important for a few reasons. The main reason is because you will be able to transfer your college credits to another college or university. You will not be able to do so when you attend a non-accredited college or university. Even more importantly, however, you will also be able to get the job that you are interested in when you attend an accredited college or university. Certain jobs may require you to take some sort of examination or become certified, but only after you have earned a degree or completed so many hours through an accredited college or university. A lot of employers also do research on the school that their potential employees have attended. If you have not gone to an accredited school, you can kiss some jobs bye-bye. Many people are under the impression that accredited schools are less expensive, but in reality, they can be more expensive for some students. The main reason is because you are not qualified for financial aid opportunities when you attend a non-accredited school. (more…)

Where To Get An Accredited Online Bachelor Degree

Tuesday, August 28th, 2007
where-to-get-an-accredited-online-bachelor-degree.jpg For a long time now, the “traditional” institutions of higher learning have had unique approaches to teaching. They have also varied by size, student composition, and faculty specialties. Similar diversity is now found among institutions who offer accredited online bachelor degrees. The providers of virtual classrooms call themselves different things.

Sometimes institutions offering an accredited online bachelor degree program will call itself a university. For example, Liberty University and Kaplan University are online schools designated as universities. Other times, the educational institution will be labeled an “Institute.” The ITT Technical Institute is one example.

ITT Technical Institute is one of several providers of online education that specialize in technical skills. De Vry is another one who also offers an accredited online bachelor degree. De Vry has two main divisions, one for students with residence in the United States, and one for students who live outside the USA. (more…)

Why Are Some Online Degree Colleges Better Than Others?

Thursday, August 16th, 2007
why-are-some-online-schools-better.jpg Any student who is on the lookout for online degree colleges would probably have been swamped with the many options marketed to them over the internet. Therefore, it is not a wonder that many students feel confused on the right college selection as they may not know the way to nail down the advantages that certain colleges have over others. Although many renowned colleges charge higher fees for their courses, the extra costs incurred may not necessarily be justified by the facilities, recognition and educational value that they provide to students.

For one thing, different online colleges are accredited by different authorities. Therefore, it is important to find out whether the degrees offered are actually accredited by the relevant educational association for your particular state. Otherwise, you may end up having a degree that is not valid and be rejected by your employers. There are also times when colleges may be in the process of getting accredited. Therefore, this information is important to you as their applications for accreditation may be rejected by the authorities later.

Once you are certain of a college’s accreditation, you should then determine the history of the college. How many students have graduated as compared to the enrollment numbers? How long has the course been offered? Answering these questions will give you an idea on the level of experience and expertise that the college has to offer for the particular course you want. After all, you are paying them for online education and deserve to get value for your money.
